You may have been preparing yourself for the new year, but have you prepared your IT. Why not make 2015 the best year yet for your IT? Here are some tips and activities to prepare your IT for 2015.
1. Out with the old, in with the new. Make sure to upgrade your old servers as Windows 2003 servers will no longer work by July 2015.
2. Step out of the past and soar into the future with cloud back up. If you are still using hard drives or tapes to back-up your data, or if you have no back up at all, it is time to switch to cloud back up.
3. Save space with a CRM System. If your handbag or briefcase is full of business cards and diarys for all of your clients’ and suppliers’ information, it’s time to clean up and implement a CRM system. A customer relationship management tool allows you to have all the information you need in one (organised) system and you can even access it on the go.
4. Why not make work easier by setting up an intranet. This allows you to manage your company information more efficiently. An intranet can be set up using server-based or online tools.
5. Clean up your cables. Why not start the new year fresh by sorting your cords and cables and keeping them neat. You may consider moving the ones you don’t use often and tying up your computer cords so they are hidden under the desk, out of the eyes of customers and away from the feet of staff.
6. Prepare for the boom by checking your capacity. Adding storage at the beginning of the year will ensure that you can work through the boom without having to worry about the storage capacity of your IT. There is good news for those who have switched to the cloud – your IT is already prepared as the cloud will expand to meet your needs.
7. Start the new year afresh with an inbox clean-up. The new year is a great time to sort out those old emails and store them in an annual file. This way you can easily dig them out when they are needed, and you can start the new year with a nice clean inbox.
